Most accountants have only ever been accountants. Before this practice I was Financial Manager at a manufacturing business with around a hundred staff, and I took it through an acquisition by an international group — the due diligence, the disclosure schedules, and an acquirer's advisors working back through years of records looking for what we'd missed.
That's why I care about your fixed asset register more than you do. If you ever sell this business, or take on a partner, or apply for finance that matters, the state of your records three years beforehand decides what you get for it.
